Challenge:

Ensuring interoperability calls for further agreed requirements in addition to the core data set – in order to enable coordinated interaction between multiple IT systems and data usage across all consortia and sites. There is currently a lack of nationally defined requirements and central components/services.

Achievements to date:

All university hospitals have agreed on a joint approach for process and data standardisation and for the establishment of interoperable IT infrastructures. This also takes into account the process and components needed for the technical implementation of patient consent and data processing in line with privacy legislation. The defined requirements are described in a paper summarising key points, and take the form of a voluntary commitment to fulfil the minimum interoperability requirements; the paper will be evolved and enhanced as the project progresses. Additionally, it outlines the necessary central components and the preparatory activities needed for individual harmonised project stages (e.g. for the step-by-step expansion of the core data set).
